Sheck to line up with musicians

South Waikato News - - SPORT -

Tokoroa former Black Fern Regina Sheck is strapping on the boots for an interesting rugby match up this weekend.

Sheck will play in a curtain raiser to a preseason Super 15 game at Mangatainoka on Saturday between the Hurricanes and Chiefs.

Before the battle between the two rugby franchises the Mangatainoka RFC Invitation XV will take on a Kiwi musicians XV.

Joining the musicians side, to add some rugby ability, are Sheck and fellow former Black Ferns Erin Rush and Rebecca Liuaana as well as current Black Fern Rebecca Mahoney.

Sheck, a prop capable of playing either side of the scrum, played 25 tests for the Black Ferns.

At provincial level she represented both Auckland and Wellington.

Tui Brewery brand manager Nick Rogers says it’s a great way to kick-off a huge year of rugby for New Zealand.

‘‘Everyone knows 2011 is going to be big so we’re kicking it off with another great Mangatainoka encounter between two giants of the game. It’s fantastic to have the Chiefs and Hurricanes play here in this big year of rugby.’’

Chiefs supporters can expect a big welcome to the game with a free beer included in the general admission ticket price of $35 for up to one hour before kick-off.
