Celebri­ties’ ef­forts at ic­ing to be tested

The South Waikato Girl Guides as­so­ci­a­tion are hav­ing a celebrity cake off in a bid to raise funds for their an­nual Girl Guide ju­bilee early next year.

The lo­cal Girl Guides will bake and dec­o­rate cakes which will be judged by the celebrity guests.

The celebrity guests will then face off in a cake dec­o­rat­ing competition. The cakes will be auc­tioned at the end of the night.

There will also be a ju­bilee mem­o­ra­bilia auc­tion which will in­clude camp blan­kets, sur­vival kit, pocket knife and much more.

The event, to be held on Satur­day at the Pu­taruru Plaza, will in­clude big names like Cameron Pet­ley and Tracy Lee from New Zealand Masterchef, Lo­cal MP Louise Upston, Pu­taruru event ex­traor­di­naire An­nie Waterworth as well as Anne Bour­bon, Paul Strange, Jenny McKen­zie, TC Rata, po­lice of­fi­cer Mur­ray Hamil­ton and South Waikato News edi­tor Florence Kerr.

South Waikato Girl Guides district co-or­di­na­tor Maria Pat­ter­son said the idea for the event came from the guide lead­ers.

‘‘We de­cided to have a cake fundraiser then the idea flour­ished from there.’’

Edi­tor Florence said it would be a great night out.

‘‘I en­cour­age all of our district to get down to the Pu­taruru Plaza on Satur­day evening to sup­port this worth­while cause. Al­though my dec­o­rat­ing and ic­ing skills are ter­ri­ble I can guar­an­tee a great night out for the fam­ily.’’

The celebrity spec­tac­u­lar will be­gin at 7pm, free en­try.

SPE­CIAL GUEST: Celebrity Cameron Pet­ley will also put his ic­ing skills to the test this Satur­day at the Pu­taruru Plaza.
