Po­lice in­ves­ti­gate af­ter school fire sus­pected of be­ing ar­son

South Waikato fire safety of­fi­cers and po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a small fire at Tainui In­ter­me­di­ate.

Fire­fight­ers got in through a win­dow af­ter see­ing smoke com­ing from a class­room just be­fore 7.30pm on Thurs­day.

Wall lin­ings had to be re­moved to fully ex­tin­guish the blaze. Se­nior Sergeant Graeme Hill said po­lice want to talk to those who have seen some­thing sus­pi­cious.

‘‘We have been told by the fire in­ves­ti­ga­tor that the fire was started us­ing an ac­cel­er­ant. We would like to talk to peo­ple who live by the school who may have seen some­thing sus­pi­cious lead­ing up to the blaze.’’
