Surf teams power over Leamington
Surf As were too strong for Leamington at Leamington on Saturday winning 58-0.
Surf dominated throughout the match running in eight tries, six of which were converted by ace goal kicker Sam McLeod. It took Surf 12 minutes to score their first points from broken play when Azza Pene dotted down in the corner 7-0.
Points kept mounting at a steady pace through two ensuing penalties bringing the score to 13-0.
In the 24th minute zippy winger Sean McKain scored after a great build-up led by the Surf pack 20-0.
Four minutes later flanker John Balvert scored from being set up by prop Herb Leef 25-0.
Lock Ash Haywood was next to score after more solid forward build up 32-0. The last seven minutes of the first half remained scoreless through better defence by Leamington and some unstructured loose play by Surf.
Walter Downey drew first blood in second half scoring off a charge-down defensive kick 39-0. Although they maintained dominance, Surf again became unstructured, failing to set a platform from tackled ball, throwing fifty-fifty passes and emanating the Sonny Bill Williams pass which saw them blow several opportunities. In the 66th minute half-back Hoots Wilson scored from broken play 46-0.
Prop Herb Leef was next to score a try after sustained forward pressure on the Leamington try line 51-0.
Flanker John Balvert in a dazzling individual effort, scored the final try just on full time 58-0. Player of the day went to prop Herb Leef, for his solid scrummaging, strong defence and good general play.
Surf senior Bs were easy winners by 43 to 8 in the curtain raiser.
