Te Kura kau­papa Maori o te Hiringa held its an­nual school Manu Ko­rero competition with im­pres­sive ora­tory on show.

Ka­iako ( teach­ers) pro­vided a va­ri­ety of top­ics for both the teina ( ju­nior) and tuakana ( se­nior) stu­dents to speak about.

The win­ner of the teina sec­tion was Hine­maia Mar­riner who spoke of her maunga and the tuakana sec­tion jointly won by Jayde Thompson and Zshawnee Uatuku both stu­dents speak­ing about the im­por­tance of te reo re­ten­tion in their lives. The speech competition is held to pro­mote and en­hance te reo Maori among tamariki and whanau.
