League leaders Tokoroa held to a draw
In a fiercely contested Waikato League B match between Tokoroa and Putaruru at Tokoroa’s Strathmore Park on Saturday the league leaders Tokoroa were held 1-1 by a spirited Putaruru side.
Tokoroa started strongly and after a string of possession resulting in four corners Tokoroa took a deserved lead after 27 minutes when from a direct corner, Tokoroa striker Michael Fitzpatrick sent in a dangerous looking cross which deceived the Putaruru goalkeeper and found its way into the net.
The second half was even more keenly contested as both sides started to look for the killer blow.
Then came another controversial incident; again a penalty was given against Tokoroa when centre-back Dean Tereru was penalised for a hand-ball.
The Putaruru forward stepped up but this time he could not convert. The game ending one all.
After 11 rounds in this season, Tokoroa remains at the top of the League Table with Putaruru now in 4th place. Tokoroa AFC’s First Team’s next game is against Waihi (in Waihi) this Saturday.
