Long-time Lion’s ef­forts recog­nised with award

At the Ti­rau Lions Com­mit­tee changeover on Sun­day Mur­ray McAl­is­ter re­ceived the Melvin Jones Fel­low­ship.

The fel­low­ship is the foun­da­tion’s high­est hon­our and rep­re­sents recog­ni­tion of a com­mit­ment to hu­man­i­tar­ian qual­i­ties such as gen­eros­ity, com­pas­sion and concern for those less for­tu­nate.

Mur­ray joined Ti­rau Lions in June 1986 hold­ing var­i­ous po­si­tions on the board in­clud­ing tailtwister, sec­re­tary, di­rec­tor, pub­lic­ity of­fi­cer and bul­letin edi­tor. He was ap­pointed 2nd vice-pres­i­dent, 1st vice-pres­i­dent and ul­ti­mately pres­i­dent.

In 2008 he was a charter trustee of Ti­rau Lions Char­i­ta­ble Trust and also its chair­per­son and is still on that board to­day.

He is cur­rently serv­ing on the district cabi­net as zone chair­man for the South Waikato.
