Long-time Lion’s efforts recognised with award
At the Tirau Lions Committee changeover on Sunday Murray McAlister received the Melvin Jones Fellowship.
The fellowship is the foundation’s highest honour and represents recognition of a commitment to humanitarian qualities such as generosity, compassion and concern for those less fortunate.
Murray joined Tirau Lions in June 1986 holding various positions on the board including tailtwister, secretary, director, publicity officer and bulletin editor. He was appointed 2nd vice-president, 1st vice-president and ultimately president.
In 2008 he was a charter trustee of Tirau Lions Charitable Trust and also its chairperson and is still on that board today.
He is currently serving on the district cabinet as zone chairman for the South Waikato.
