Ella’s artwork earns lunchbox poster win
Wintec journalism student Amisfield School student Ella Callaghan recently won the year 1-3 section of the 2011 National Lunchbox Day competition.
Ella’s poster won her the individual prize of an iPod Nano and won the school $ 500 worth of books.
Principal Matt Sabapathy said this was a remarkable achievement for Ella and the school.
‘‘Ella was rewarded with something even I don’t have, a brand new iPod Nano,’’ he said.
Lunchbox Day is part of the FoodSmart Clean, Cook and Chill programme. The day was initiated to encourage schools around the country to explore the concept of food safety and the importance of a healthy lunchbox. A particular focus was put on ways to keep lunchboxes cool so that food was not contaminated by bacteria.
Schools were provided resources to address health and physical education, literacy, science and technology learning areas in the New Zealand curriculum.
