Super Sports still strong
This year marks the 25th anniversary of South Waikato Super Sports.
Unique to the South Waikato, Super Sports started out in 1986 as an attempt by four businessmen to assist Trudy Boyce ( equestrian) and Andrew Whitford (cycling) to compete at the 1988 Olympics and the trust continues today to raise and distribute funds to assist local sportspeople to represent New Zealand on the international stage.
Super Sports is all about assisting with travel and competition costs so time can be spent training and less time spent on fundraising or seeking sponsorship. 25 years on, Super Sports has granted in excess of $ 150,000 to South Waikato sports people covering a wide range of sports.
South Waikato Super Sports’ annual Trivial Pursuit fundraiser is to be held on Saturday August 13 at the Tokoroa Club. Teams of four are invited at a cost of $40 per team. Team registrations will be taken from 6.30 on the night with the trivia starting at 7.30pm.
