Ris­ing young star to play at Pu­taruru

Jun Boutery-Ishido, 21, is re­turn­ing from his over­seas stud­ies for a Cham­ber Mu­sic New Zealand tour which in­cludes Pu­taruru on July 30 at 2pm.

This is one of the sea­son con­certs for 2011 for South Waikato Mu­sic So­ci­ety and will be at The Plaza. Boutery-Ishido won the Kerik­eri In­ter­na­tional Piano Competition when he was 18 years old.

He was a Christchurch res­i­dent who com­pleted his Bach­e­lor of Mu­sic at Can­ter­bury Univer­sity with tu­tors Peter Nagy, Gao Ping and Ju­dith Church.

Boutery-Ishido has at­tended mas­ter classes with well known pi­anists Michael Hous­ton and Piers Lane.

As well as win­ning first prize at Kerik­eri, he was awarded the Na­tional Young Per­former of the Year for piano in 2004 and again in 2005 for vi­o­lin. Be­fore leav­ing New Zealand he re­ceived the Dame Malv­ina Ma­jor Foun­da­tion Arts Ex­cel­lence Award twice.

His var­ied pro­gramme for this tour in­cludes the lively gigues of Bach’s English Suites, more French than English in style. He is also play­ing Bar­tok’s Out of Doors suite which de­picts Hun­gar­ian peas­ant life.

His con­clud­ing piece will be Brahms’ Han­del Vari­a­tions.

This con­cert will have door sales avail­able to adults at $25 and stu­dents un­der 18 are al­ways ad­mit­ted free to South Waikato Mu­sic So­ci­ety func­tions.
