Rising young star to play at Putaruru
Jun Boutery-Ishido, 21, is returning from his overseas studies for a Chamber Music New Zealand tour which includes Putaruru on July 30 at 2pm.
This is one of the season concerts for 2011 for South Waikato Music Society and will be at The Plaza. Boutery-Ishido won the Kerikeri International Piano Competition when he was 18 years old.
He was a Christchurch resident who completed his Bachelor of Music at Canterbury University with tutors Peter Nagy, Gao Ping and Judith Church.
Boutery-Ishido has attended master classes with well known pianists Michael Houston and Piers Lane.
As well as winning first prize at Kerikeri, he was awarded the National Young Performer of the Year for piano in 2004 and again in 2005 for violin. Before leaving New Zealand he received the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Arts Excellence Award twice.
His varied programme for this tour includes the lively gigues of Bach’s English Suites, more French than English in style. He is also playing Bartok’s Out of Doors suite which depicts Hungarian peasant life.
His concluding piece will be Brahms’ Handel Variations.
This concert will have door sales available to adults at $25 and students under 18 are always admitted free to South Waikato Music Society functions.
