Cardrona offers comfort and care
Cardrona Rest Home and Hospital, situated in the heart of Putaruru in the Southern Waikato, provides quality residential and respite care in a ‘home away from home’ environment. It is licensed to provide rest home and hospital level care for 33 individuals and/or married couples in single or double rooms.
Trevor and Doreen Beer have owned Cardrona for over 20 years and take a hands-on approach to managing Cardrona. Doreen, together with clinical nurse manager, Katherine McLeod, manage the home to ensure all the physical, medical and personal needs of the residents are met. Cardrona has a registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day, trained care-giving staff, an activities co-ordinator and domestic staff to provide holistic friendly care.
Dr Rosalie Hill and nurse practitioner Rachel Hale, visit the home as required and provide full medical support. All medications are carefully reviewed and dispensed by our competent knowledgeable staff. We also provide a range of support services including physiotherapy, a dietician, speech language therapy, podiatry and hairdressing
Cardrona prides itself on serving tasty nutritional homemade food. All three meals are served in the communal dining room and may also be served in bedrooms if required. Lunch is the main meal of the day, with a lighter meal in the evening. Morning and afternoon tea as well as supper and snacks are served throughout the day. Specialist diets and preferences are catered for and the menu is routinely reviewed by a dietician, to ensure it meets the nutritional needs of our residents.
All rooms are well appointed and new residents are welcome to bring their own furniture and personal items to help them feel more at home. Each room is equipped with a call bell for assistance at any time. In addition the home has several lounge and conservatory areas for relaxing in and entertaining visitors. Visitors are welcome at any time, however for security reasons our doors are locked at 8pm and visits after this time must be arranged with the staff.
Outings with family and friends are encouraged and are also arranged by Cardrona for resident’s enjoyment. Attendance at outside community groups is also encouraged to maintain links with the wider community.
We are happy to meet with you to discuss any needs and questions you may have when you are considering residential care for yourself or a loved one. The manager is also available to offer assistance with any legal or financial issues.
