The roar of the crowd, spine-tingling anthems and millions of international viewers following their every step will be life-long memories for one lucky Putaruru rugby fan.

Eleven-year-old Liam Hawkes has been selected as an ANZ Future Captain and will lead Wales onto the field alongside their captain when they play Fiji on October 2 at 6pm at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton.

ANZ business development manager Shane Southby said the prize was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the youngster who would stand beside the players as they sang their national anthem.

‘‘We are thrilled that we can give Liam a Rugby World Cup 2011 experience he’ll never forget.

‘‘Liam is one of 96 children from around New Zealand who will be ANZ Future Captains and accompany a Rugby World Cup 2011 captain on to the field. We’re sure the local crowds will really cheer them on,’’ Mr Southby said.
