Rangiura’s dementia unit, Fern Haven, has been recognised at this year’s New Zealand Age Concern Association/ INsite Excellence in Care Awards.

The establishment was awarded the Built and Grown Environment award at an awards ceremony in Auckland attended by 600 individuals from residential rest homes, hospitals and dementia facilities. Jackson Enterprises Limited sponsored the Built and Grown Environment award and manager Gus de Vries presented it to Rangiura staff, residents, Rangiura Trust Board and Fundraising Committee members recently.

‘‘It is the first facility of its type in Australasia because it is modelled around a huge house and not an institution. It enables the residents and their families to get together and allows interaction. It is an absolutely fantastic building, congratulations,’’ Mr de Vries said.

Fern Haven opened last December and was aided by the huge fundraising push made by the fundraising committee and the South Waikato community that helped to raise $840,000.

WINNERS: Gus de Vries of Jackson Enterprises Limited presented the Built and Grown Environment award to Rangiura.
