Quiz for Jamboree camp
Nineteen guides and rangers and six leaders from the South Waikato Girlguiding group have been preparing all year for Jamboree at Tui Ridge, Mamaku in January.
Jamboree is where about 3000 guides and rangers from all over New Zealand come together for a week of fun, adventures and fellowship. It provides an opportunity for girls to experience camping in tents on a big scale. The camps are held every four years, the last one in 2008 in Christchurch.
The girls recently went on a preJamboree camp for three nights at Tiro Tiro Whetu in Reporoa. They learnt about cleaning their teeth in a mug, going without a TV or radio, using portaloos, washing their hair in a basin and using a solar shower
The cost of the Jamboree is $650 ar girl. The girls and their parents have fundraised a lot of this through catering, sausage sizzles, selling licorice, chocolate bars, pizzas and pies, garage sales and Tupperware parties. They also hosted a celebrity cake icing competition.
The final fundraiser for the year is a quiz night at Lichfield School hall on November 11, 6.30pm. It will be exciting night with prizes for winning teams, best dressed team and table and items for auction. Cost is $40 a team of four.
