Years of hard work and tremendous results saw Putaruru College’s Dana Goodacre awarded dux of Putaruru College last week.

Dana was the top academic student finishing first in English, chemistry, biology, physics, calculus and geography.

Dana also received a number of scholarships.

‘‘I received one from Otago University, which is awarded to the dux of every high school, one from Massey University, which I applied for, and one from the University of Auckland, which I also applied for. I received a Carter Holt Harvey Pulp and Paper Mill Scholarship as well which was awarded for a presentation I gave,’’ she said.

Dana has decided to accept the University of Auckland’s scholarship. ‘‘The scholarship they have awarded me is the largest by far of the three offered by universities. This has definitely made it easier to decide. The scholarship is for three years and it will be awarded in full on the condition that I continue to do well.’’

She will study for a bachelor of science and is thrilled with her achievements.

‘‘ Yes it feels very good and the monetary rewards I have received make the effort I put in at school even more worthwhile.

‘‘But for me school is primarily about the learning experience and this is not the end. School isn’t quite over yet. I still have to write eight NCEA exams which my entry into university, and the award of my University of Auckland Scholarship depend upon.’’

Dana said she might be able to relax when she receives her results in January.
