Earlier this month the Tokoroa Aero Club hosted the Flying New Zealand Central Region Flying Competitions.

It was the first time the event had been held in Tokoroa and the categories included spot landing, forced landings, navigation, circuits, bombing, liferaft dropping and aerobatics.

The formation flying was cancelled due to strong winds, which also made it difficult for competitors in the landing events.

Around 25 aircraft from Tauranga, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Hawera, Taumarunui and Te Kuiti with 50 entrants and supporters were present.

A prizegiving ceremony was held at the Tokoroa Club, where the Wigram Cup was awarded to New Plymouth. Second place was awarded to Tauranga and Waikato finished third. The winners of each category move on to the National Finals which will be held at North Shore Aero Club in February.
