Award finalists named
Congratulations to nominees and winners from the South Waikato District Sports Awards on Monday.
The evening’s celebration was enjoyed by a record crowd with guest speaker Richard Kahui proving popular.
A Service to Sport award was presented to Barbara Lamb. Other winners on the night were: Club of the Year, Putaruru Squash Club; Referee/umpire of the Year, Daley Rata-makene, touch; Coach of the Year, Nooroa Manu, rugby; Team of the Year, Pockets, cue sports; Sporting Personality of the Year, Nooroa Manu, rugby; Junior Sportsman of the Year, Daniel Keith, kick boxing; Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Shawnee Felton, judo; Sportsperson of the Year, Danny Mcbride, adaptive rowing.
These winners will be the South Waikato representatives in the Brian Perry Waikato Regional Sports Awards finals in Hamilton on February 2.
Junior athletics has begun for the season in Putaruru each Wednesday at 6pm at Glenshea Park.
Club volunteers have enjoyed coach training by Sportsforce athletics development officer Alan Mcdonald and the club is developing a programme to ensure a fun and successful introduction to athletics for all junior members.

Hash House Harriers meet tonight at 6pm at Dino’s on State Highway 1. The group runs and walks rain, hail or shine.
