Award fi­nal­ists named

Congratulations to nom­i­nees and win­ners from the South Waikato District Sports Awards on Mon­day.

The evening’s cel­e­bra­tion was en­joyed by a record crowd with guest speaker Richard Kahui prov­ing pop­u­lar.

A Ser­vice to Sport award was pre­sented to Bar­bara Lamb. Other win­ners on the night were: Club of the Year, Pu­taruru Squash Club; Ref­eree/um­pire of the Year, Da­ley Rata-mak­ene, touch; Coach of the Year, Nooroa Manu, rugby; Team of the Year, Pock­ets, cue sports; Sport­ing Per­son­al­ity of the Year, Nooroa Manu, rugby; Ju­nior Sports­man of the Year, Daniel Keith, kick box­ing; Ju­nior Sportswoman of the Year, Shawnee Fel­ton, judo; Sportsper­son of the Year, Danny Mcbride, adap­tive row­ing.

These win­ners will be the South Waikato rep­re­sen­ta­tives in the Brian Perry Waikato Re­gional Sports Awards fi­nals in Hamil­ton on Fe­bru­ary 2.

Ju­nior ath­let­ics has be­gun for the sea­son in Pu­taruru each Wed­nes­day at 6pm at Glen­shea Park.

Club vol­un­teers have en­joyed coach train­ing by Sports­force ath­let­ics de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer Alan Mc­don­ald and the club is de­vel­op­ing a pro­gramme to en­sure a fun and suc­cess­ful in­tro­duc­tion to ath­let­ics for all ju­nior mem­bers.

Com­mu­nity di­eti­cian Yvonne Ran­del will lead an in­for­ma­tion ses­sion on Novem­ber 29, 11am11.30am, at Elim Church on healthy diet and ex­er­cise. For de­tails phone 027 232 4782.

Hash House Har­ri­ers meet tonight at 6pm at Dino’s on State High­way 1. The group runs and walks rain, hail or shine.
