South Waikato News - - FRONT PAGE -

Louise Upston took the Taupo electorate for the National Party again and did so by a huge margin.

Her majority almost doubled from three years ago to 13,049 ahead of Labour’s Frances Campbell.

Mrs Upston said she was thrilled she could share the win with her husband and children.

‘‘I am very pleased with the results. I have worked hard the three years. That three years of work has pulled this off ...A highlight for me is bringing in the police protection orders that allow police to address domestic violence on the spot.’’

Mrs Upston said she had watched the orders used first hand when she went with police on a ride-along in Tokoroa.

Saturday’s results also brought brilliant news for Maori Party co- leader Tariana Turia, who retained Te Tai Hauauru with 7466 votes, ahead of Soraya PekeMason on 4706.
