Toko­roa set for fes­tive week­end

Toko­roa is gear­ing up for what is pos­si­bly the town’s big­gest week­end this year.

Toko­roa’s Big Week­end will be held on De­cem­ber 3 and 4 and will in­clude the Christ­mas Pa­rade, A& P Show and Car­ols in the Park.

A& P and Big Week­end ad­ver­tis­ing/ trade space co- or­di­na­tor Graeme Ear­les said this year was the fourth year of the Big Week­end.

The Christ­mas Pa­rade will be­gin at 11am on De­cem­ber 3, the A&P Show will start at 9am with Car­ols in the Park be­ing held on De­cem­ber 4 from 6pm.

The Christ­mas Pa­rade will be­gin from Kinder­garten Park and will move from Bridge St to Leith Place.

‘‘The pa­rade will have a lot of dif­fer­ent trucks, trac­tors, walk­ers, kids in cos­tume, stilt walk­ers and clowns.’’

Mr Ear­les said the A&P Show was in its 74th year and would fea­ture cat­tle sec­tions, horse events, trade space, a home in­dus­try sec­tion, minia­ture cat­tle, pet cen­tre, the golden axe wood chop­ping com­pe­ti­tions, Miss Show­girl, Miss Princess and Miss Ju­nior Princess.

Mr Ear­les has been part of the fes­tiv­i­ties for nine years.

‘‘(It’s) been good. We’ve had some re­ally good weather, we have had some rub­bish weather lead­ing up to the show.’’
