He is possibly the youngest person to ever vie for a national cage fighting title in New Zealand.

Syndikit MMA cage fighter Anton Milnes, 16, will compete for the New Zealand Supremacy Cage Fighting title in January in Christchurch.

Head coach Maka Kea said: ‘‘ He’s the number one contender in New Zealand right now in his weight class, light weight.’’

His opponent in January has held the title for the past three years.

Anton’s training routines are rigorous, often up to twice a day and six times a week.

Maka said Anton is near the peak of his fitness.

‘‘( He’s) probably one of the youngest in the world to contend for a cage fighting title.

‘‘To come across a kid like him is one in a million.’’

Maka said Anton’s work rate, humbleness and dedication set him apart from other fighters.

‘‘You wouldn’t expect to find that kind of focus from a 16 year old.’’

Earlier this year Anton won his fight at Supremacy Fighting Championship 8: Triple Threat, beating a 30-year-old personal trainer.

ON THE CHARGE: Tokoroa cage fighter Anton Milnes is training for a national cage fighting title.
