Primary school wins global awards
Putaruru Primary School triumphed with their J Rock stage challenge entry this year.
The school’s performance, The Gift of Tangaroa, won two excellence awards in the Global Rock Challenge Championships which means Putaruru Primary is one of the top J Rock schools in the world.
As one of more than 700 school entries from Britain, Australia, Japan and New Zealand, the students won the Soundtrack and Concept Originality excellence categories.
Putaruru Primary teacher Kerry Farrant said only three New Zealand schools won global excellence awards. The other two were Auckland schools Royal Oak and Kedgley Intermediate.
‘‘We work hard to assure our students that they really can do anything,’’ Ms Farrant said.
‘‘ J Rock is also a very valuable way of celebrating our school values of excellence, citizenship and life-long learning. We are extremely proud of the amazing, talented students in the team and the adults who supported them.’’
The event is staged each year in New Zealand, Australia, Dubai, Japan and Britain.
