Make your own Christmas wreath

South Waikato News - - NEWS -

Making a Christmas wreath is an easy and pleasant way to make a nice gift.

Take your secateurs out into your garden and fossick for greenery and flowers with which to make it.

Longer-lasting flowers work best but others, even wild specimens like clover, dry well.

You can buy frames to attach everything to but there’s no need.

One way is to roll up newspaper lengthwise and twist around into a circle, butting one end into the other.

Wind wire around to strengthen, then poke your greenery and flowers into this, working it in one direction only.

Then tie the lot off with red or tartan ribbon and it’s done.

Even simpler, is to dispense with the newspaper and wind small green branches (or toi toi flowers) with wire and ribbon, shaped into a circle.

A candle in the middle sets off your lively green table centrepiece.

Flowers can be added regularly to keep it fresh.

HOMEMADE: Making your own wreath can be enjoyable and fun.
