Lake regatta set to cause a splash
On January 1 and 2, the Lakeland Power Boat Club will host its annual speedboat regatta on Lake Maraetai in Mangakino.
The club will be running two North Island titles with Tokoroa woman Noeline Steiner competing in her class for the first time – trying to achieve a title for the series 3000 in her boat, Misty Blue.
‘‘I will be competing with the guys. I have competed in a lot of races but my husband, Allan Steiner, has never let me run in the North Island title. So fingers crossed that I do myself and my family proud,’’ Steiner said.
Allan Steiner was born and raised in Mangakino, and won the New Zealand National Championship in early 2011.
The club will also be running the feature event, Master of Mangakino – an open class for 15 years and over.
Engines are any outboard or inboard stock standard engine up to 25hp. Not fast boats but expected to be exciting to watch.
Entry is free. There will be food for sale.
