Lake re­gatta set to cause a splash

On Jan­uary 1 and 2, the Lake­land Power Boat Club will host its an­nual speed­boat re­gatta on Lake Marae­tai in Man­gakino.

The club will be run­ning two North Is­land ti­tles with Toko­roa wo­man Noe­line Steiner com­pet­ing in her class for the first time – try­ing to achieve a ti­tle for the se­ries 3000 in her boat, Misty Blue.

‘‘I will be com­pet­ing with the guys. I have com­peted in a lot of races but my hus­band, Allan Steiner, has never let me run in the North Is­land ti­tle. So fin­gers crossed that I do my­self and my fam­ily proud,’’ Steiner said.

Allan Steiner was born and raised in Man­gakino, and won the New Zealand National Cham­pi­onship in early 2011.

The club will also be run­ning the fea­ture event, Mas­ter of Man­gakino – an open class for 15 years and over.

En­gines are any out­board or in­board stock stan­dard en­gine up to 25hp. Not fast boats but ex­pected to be ex­cit­ing to watch.

En­try is free. There will be food for sale.
