Toko­roa golf in full swing for a busy new year

The Toko­roa Golf Club is all geared up and ready to go for the 2012 sea­son.

On Satur­day, Jan­uary 7 the qual­i­fy­ing of the Sum­mer Cup and Sum­mer Mug match­play com­pe­ti­tion were held with Liam Mck­ain tak­ing top hon­ours with an im­pres­sive 66 nett which in­cluded an ‘‘Ea­gle 2’’ on the par- four 9th. Brendan Mor­gan qual­i­fied sec­ond with a 70 nett, Mal­colm Buck­ley third on a 71 and Mike Fid­dis fourth on 73 on a count­back from Shirley Buck­ley, Jet Pi­hama and Ian Christie.

A copy of both draws are posted at the club­house and have been e-mailed to com­peti­tors. In­quiries can be made to club cap­tain Owen Wilson on 886 0888 ( work) or 021 926 113.

Shop Scram­ble win­ner for the day was Brendan Mor­gan with 38 sta­ble­ford points and two twos.

Vets Golf has con­tin­ued through­out the Christ­mas and new year break with some im­pres­sive scor­ing and reg­u­lar re­sults will be posted as they come to hand.

Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 18 sees the re­sump­tion of Twi­light Golf which will con­tinue un­til the end of day­light sav­ing, in­quiries can be made to twi­light con­venor Shirley Buck­ley on 886 9789.

Sun­day, Jan­uary 22 will see the first of five open tour­na­ments be­ing spon­sored by Toko­roa New World with funds from this first event go­ing to­wards club rep­re­sen­ta­tive teams.

On Sun­day, Jan­uary 29 the Toko­roa Cos­mopoli­tan Club will hold its Closed Tour­na­ment.

Fe­bru­ary 11 sees the of­fi­cial open­ing of the club’s sea­son, com­pris­ing of the pre­sen­ta­tion of tro­phies and prizes for Sum­mer Cup and Sum­mer Mug win­ners and run­ners-up.

This will be fol­lowed by the Rus­sell Grace Spoon ( Mixed Pairs Com­bined Sta­ble­ford) and $ 10 nett.

The women’s week­day open­ing will be held on Fe­bru­ary 14.
