Tax pay­ment time near

In­land Rev­enue is re­mind­ing cus­tomers that end- of- year tax pay­ments are due on Fe­bru­ary 7, 2012 un­less they have an ex­ten­sion of time through a tax agent.

Pay­ment may be re­quired for in­come tax, Work­ing for Fam­i­lies tax cred­its or stu­dent loans for the 2011 tax year.

To help cus­tomers pay on time and avoid penal­ties and in­ter­est, In­land Rev­enue sends re­minder let­ters and text mes­sages to many peo­ple with a bill to pay. ‘‘ We un­der­stand some peo­ple could have trou­ble mak­ing their pay­ment, so we are en­cour­ag­ing cus­tomers to con­tact us as early as pos­si­ble so we can dis­cuss their op­tions,’’ said Heather Daly, group man­ager, cus­tomer ser­vices.

Ms Daly said that cus­tomers through­out the coun­try had a num­ber of ways avail­able to make end- of- year pay­ments.

‘‘ Pay­ments can be made online us­ing credit or debit cards or through in­ter­net bank­ing; by cash, cheque or eft­pos at any West­pac bank; or by post­ing a pay­ment slip and a cheque to us.’’
