Tax payment time near
Inland Revenue is reminding customers that end- of- year tax payments are due on February 7, 2012 unless they have an extension of time through a tax agent.
Payment may be required for income tax, Working for Families tax credits or student loans for the 2011 tax year.
To help customers pay on time and avoid penalties and interest, Inland Revenue sends reminder letters and text messages to many people with a bill to pay. ‘‘ We understand some people could have trouble making their payment, so we are encouraging customers to contact us as early as possible so we can discuss their options,’’ said Heather Daly, group manager, customer services.
Ms Daly said that customers throughout the country had a number of ways available to make end- of- year payments.
‘‘ Payments can be made online using credit or debit cards or through internet banking; by cash, cheque or eftpos at any Westpac bank; or by posting a payment slip and a cheque to us.’’
People can call Inland Revenue’s contact centres which are open 8am to 8pm weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays on 0800 227 774.
