Golfers bat­tle for sum­mer tro­phies

First-round win­ners of the Sum­mer Cup Match­play Tro­phy have been found with Liam Mck­ain, Steven Ngata­mariki, Tangi Tarai, Mike Fid­dis, Mal­colm Buck­ley, Sy Nooroa, Ian Christie and Brendan Mor­gan all ad­vanc­ing to the sec­ond round.

Two matches have been com­pleted, Mike Fid­dis beat­ing Tangi Tarai on the 19th hole and Mal­colm Buck­ley beat­ing Sy Nooroa.

Re­main­ing sec­ond-round matches to be com­pleted be­fore this Satur­day.

The Sum­mer Mug has its first fi­nal­ist with Tom Hayes beat­ing Dave Ahuriri on the 18th hole and now awaits the re­sult of the re­main­ing semi­fi­nal be­tween Kahupiki Winikerei and Bob Leger.

The Vets re­sults from Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 11 saw Alan Foster yet again scor­ing a good round with 39 points fol­lowed by Ken Ram­say, Des But­ter­worth and Bob Grange on 35 points.

John Lee scooped the twos prize pool scor­ing one on the 118m par 3 5th and an­other on the 124m par 3 13th.

On Jan­uary 14 a $10 nett com­pe­ti­tion was run in con­junc­tion with the Sum­mer Tro­phies which saw Shanynn Mc­caskill tak­ing the first prize fol­lowed closely by Con­well Dug­gan, Alan Har­ris, Garth Shaw and Gavin Cortesi.

This af­ter­noon (Wed­nes­day 18th) sees the re­sump­tion of Twi­light Golf, with mem­bers pay­ing $ 7, non­mem­bers $10 and an op­tional $1 is also charged for all com­peti­tors, this go­ing to­wards a putting com­pe­ti­tion at the end of play.

On Satur­day, Jan­uary 21 the semi­fi­nals of the Sum­mer Tro­phies will be played plus a Shop Scram­ble and on Sun­day the golf club hosts its first open tour­na­ment for the year, that be­ing the Toko­roa New World Open with a rolling start from 9am to 11.30am. A start sheet is sit­u­ated on the mem­bers’ no­tice­board for those play­ers want­ing to se­cure a time slot.
