Golfers battle for summer trophies
First-round winners of the Summer Cup Matchplay Trophy have been found with Liam Mckain, Steven Ngatamariki, Tangi Tarai, Mike Fiddis, Malcolm Buckley, Sy Nooroa, Ian Christie and Brendan Morgan all advancing to the second round.
Two matches have been completed, Mike Fiddis beating Tangi Tarai on the 19th hole and Malcolm Buckley beating Sy Nooroa.
Remaining second-round matches to be completed before this Saturday.
The Summer Mug has its first finalist with Tom Hayes beating Dave Ahuriri on the 18th hole and now awaits the result of the remaining semifinal between Kahupiki Winikerei and Bob Leger.
The Vets results from Wednesday, January 11 saw Alan Foster yet again scoring a good round with 39 points followed by Ken Ramsay, Des Butterworth and Bob Grange on 35 points.
John Lee scooped the twos prize pool scoring one on the 118m par 3 5th and another on the 124m par 3 13th.
On January 14 a $10 nett competition was run in conjunction with the Summer Trophies which saw Shanynn Mccaskill taking the first prize followed closely by Conwell Duggan, Alan Harris, Garth Shaw and Gavin Cortesi.
This afternoon (Wednesday 18th) sees the resumption of Twilight Golf, with members paying $ 7, nonmembers $10 and an optional $1 is also charged for all competitors, this going towards a putting competition at the end of play.
On Saturday, January 21 the semifinals of the Summer Trophies will be played plus a Shop Scramble and on Sunday the golf club hosts its first open tournament for the year, that being the Tokoroa New World Open with a rolling start from 9am to 11.30am. A start sheet is situated on the members’ noticeboard for those players wanting to secure a time slot.
