Mundi’s global groove at The Plaza

The global sound of Mundi will be heard at The Plaza in Pu­taruru next month.

Vir­tu­oso flautist and com­poser Ta­mara Smith leads the group and is sup­ported by mas­ter mu­si­cians on sax, banjo, bass and world per­cus­sion, as well as voice. The group will per­form in Pu­taruru on Fe­bru­ary 17.

Be­tween them, Mundi’s mu­si­cians have trav­elled through al­most ev­ery con­ti­nent on the globe.

In­spired by the mu­sic of North Africa, the Ama­zon Basin and be­yond, the group’s aim is to use these ex­pe­ri­ences to cre­ate their own unique glo- bal sound. Mundi’s de­but al­bum, Serendip­ity was recorded in col­lab­o­ra­tion with tra­di­tional Sri Lankan artists.

Their mu­sic has fea­tured on the Air New Zealand play list, on Aus­tralia’s ABC net­work and show­cased on Ra­dio NZ Con­cert’s Global Sounds.
