Po­lice seek ad­vice on lay­ing charges

It could be sev­eral weeks be­fore any charges are laid over a bar fight that ended the life of a Pu­taruru man. De­tec­tive Sergeant Ke­van Verry, of Toko­roa, said po­lice were seek­ing le­gal ad­vice on what charge to lay against the man they be­lieve punched Fitu Leau, 71, who then fell and hit his head. That le­gal ad­vice could take sev­eral weeks, Mr Verry said. The as­sault oc­curred at Pu­taruru Sports Bar on Jan­uary 7. Mr Leau died in Waikato Hospi­tal.
