While they are thankful for the community’s continued support, officials from Tokoroa’s OP Shop said they were dealing with an ongoing issue of donations being left at the store’s back door.

Volunteer Norah Burke is asking that generous donations be dropped off during the store’s opening hours.

Her call comes as goods left in the alleyway behind the store are being damaged by wintry weather conditions, straying animals and opportunistic vandals.

Mrs Burke encourages anyone donating after hours to contact staff who are more than willing to drive to the store to receive goods.

‘‘When people leave goods outside, particularly if it is there over a weekend and of course with the fact that the shop isn’t open on Monday, by the time we get to stuff on Tuesday morning things are pretty well ruined.

Some items have to be thrown out because they are too damaged.

Recent items include electrical goods and foot baths.
