Time has almost run out for voters to get correctly enrolled for in the Tirau Ward by-election, to ensure voting papers are mailed to them.
The electoral rolls for the South Waikato District Local by-election close on March 22.
‘‘Only those people who are correctly enrolled by the time the electoral roll has closed will get voting papers in the mail to vote in the Tirau Ward by-election,’’ said Frances Chapman and Fiona Strang, Registrars of Electors for the Taupo and Te Tai Hauauru electorates.
‘‘To get your voting papers in the mail you need to be enrolled or have your details updated no later than March 22, 2012.’’
So far 1342 of Taupo electors are enrolled to vote in the by-election and 127 of the Te Tai Hauauru electors are enrolled to vote.
The by-election will elect the new community board member for the South Waikato District Tirau Ward.
‘‘People can get an enrolment form by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 367 656), by freetexting their name and address to 3676, by requesting or downloading one from the elections website at elections.org.nz, or at any Postshop.’’
Frances Chapman said that because the details of people on the unpublished roll were confidential, electors on this roll should contact Electoral Officer Richard Fisk at South Waikato District Council 07 885 0723 direct for information on how to apply to cast a special vote.
