Prime time

I had the plea­sure of spend­ing seven months in your beau­ti­ful coun­try in 1967 while work­ing as a stu­dent of New Mex­ico State Univer­sity.

The time was split be­tween Pa­pakura and In­ver­cargill.

I have wanted to re­turn ever since and bring my wife to see New Zealand’s won­ders.

While in Pa­pakura my co-work­ers and I took a bus tour of the North Is­land which in­cluded stops in Toko­roa, Ro­torua and Taupo as well as other points of in­ter­est (and met some of the nicest peo­ple I have ever had the plea­sure to meet).

Imag­ine my sur­prise to find a wildly pop­u­lar chan­nel on YouTube which fea­tures the South Waikato Model Aero Club.

I had an in­ter­est in model air­craft when I was young but could never af­ford the sport. Bruce Simp­son and the crew at SWMAC have rekin­dled my in­ter­est in the sport and I now fly with an in­for­mal group of ra­dio control mod­ellers in Los Lu­nas, New Mex­ico, as well as scratch build­ing ra­dio­con­trolled mod­els from foam board.
