Winter Walking

Walking is one of the very best exercises to do. The best thing about walking is that it is gentle and low impact and nearly everyone can do it. Experts say that to maintain good health we should be walking approximately 10,000 steps a day. These days most people only do a few thousand.

You can walk: with friends or by yourself; rain, hail or shine; most anywhere; at no cost.

You can also: strengthen your heart; improve your fitness; help alleviate depression; burn calories.

Brisk walking is almost as good as jogging. You burn nearly the same amount of calories, it just takes you a little longer. Winter is a great time to get out and experience the outdoors. Dress with light layers rather than heavy garments, make sure you have reasonably good footwear and just do it.

Be positive

As winter sporting codes are now in full swing it’s good to remember the importance of positive sideline comments from parents, fans and family members to players on the field or court.

Negative comments can dishearten players and teams with long lasting effects and can also heighten tensions and result in player drop offs.

Support your players with positive sideline comments.
