Vol­un­teers ac­knowl­edged

The vol­un­teer ef­forts of 86 peo­ple were cel­e­brated at the 2012 Honour­ing Vol­un­teers cer­e­mony at the Plaza in Pu­taruru.

Mayor Neil Sin­clair opened the cel­e­bra­tions by thank­ing all the vol­un­teers who con­tinue to work tire­lessly in the com­mu­nity.

Var­i­ous com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions were asked nom­i­nate three peo­ple who were then in­vited to at­tend the cer­e­mony to be for­mally ac­know- ledged in front of fam­ily and friends. Close to 120 peo­ple at­tended the cer­e­mony.

South Waikato District Coun­cil com­mu­nity de­vel­op­ment staff and Sport Waikato district co-or­di­na­tor Heather Gaby col­lab­o­rated on the cel­e­bra­tions.

The theme was Build­ing Com­mu­ni­ties through Vol­un­teer­ing, and marked the start of June’s Vol­un­teer Aware­ness Week.
