Thurs­day, July 5, saw Josie Loye win­ning the 9-hole stable­ford with 20 points fol­lowed by He­len Min­nell (18) and Pauline Blair (16). Loye also slot­ted a birdie 2 on the 118-me­tre par 3 5th.

On Fri­day, July 6, the fi­nal round of the East Zone Wills Cup was played at Cam­bridge. The New World Toko­roa team, de­spite be­ing un­able to field a team of two sil­ver play­ers in a ma­jor­ity of the com­pe­ti­tions, were well sup­ported by bronze 1 play­ers Judy Van Geest, Josie Loye, Jan Grange and Deb­bie Hayes-Len­non along with­team-mates fill­ing in the po­si­tions of bronze 1 Ann Preece and bronze 2 Lor­raine Gil­bert, Jenny Flavall and Shanynn McCaskill.

Toko­roa fin­ished in 4th place over­all, Pu­taruru win­ning the com­pe­ti­tion on 285.5 points with Ti­rau tak­ing the run­ner-up po­si­tion on 283.5. Both teams now ad­vance to the Waikato fi­nals on Fri­day, Au­gust 24.

On Satur­day, July 7, Shanynn McCaskill won the scram­ble with a 67 net and Teia Skel­ton was sec­ond with 72.

The men’s com­pe­ti­tion saw some top scor­ing and was even­tu­ally won by Brown Cortesi with 43 points fol­lowed by Rex Asi­ata, Jack Baker, John Bart­ley and Jon Welch all on 40 points.

Cortesi also slot­ted 2 twos – one on the 18me­tre par 3 14th and 176-me­tre par 3 17th. Owen Wil­son also slot­ted a birdie 2 on the 14th.

Satur­day, July 28, sees Toko­roa host­ing the New World Toko­roa Open Tour­na­ment with an en­try fee of $20, as­sem­ble 9.30am for a 10am multi-tee start. Events in July: Wed­nes­day 11th: Vets Scram­ble. Thurs­day 12th: Ladies – 1st Rd Owen Jones Cup; Scram­ble for non com­peti­tors.

Satur­day 14th: Ladies – Ash­worth Cup Rd 1 of 3 (net). Men – Dyer Cup 4BBB (drawn part­ners) – net. Sun­day 15th: Ladies – Waikato v Bay of Plenty @ Pu­taruru.
