Thursday, July 5, saw Josie Loye winning the 9-hole stableford with 20 points followed by Helen Minnell (18) and Pauline Blair (16). Loye also slotted a birdie 2 on the 118-metre par 3 5th.
On Friday, July 6, the final round of the East Zone Wills Cup was played at Cambridge. The New World Tokoroa team, despite being unable to field a team of two silver players in a majority of the competitions, were well supported by bronze 1 players Judy Van Geest, Josie Loye, Jan Grange and Debbie Hayes-Lennon along withteam-mates filling in the positions of bronze 1 Ann Preece and bronze 2 Lorraine Gilbert, Jenny Flavall and Shanynn McCaskill.
Tokoroa finished in 4th place overall, Putaruru winning the competition on 285.5 points with Tirau taking the runner-up position on 283.5. Both teams now advance to the Waikato finals on Friday, August 24.
On Saturday, July 7, Shanynn McCaskill won the scramble with a 67 net and Teia Skelton was second with 72.
The men’s competition saw some top scoring and was eventually won by Brown Cortesi with 43 points followed by Rex Asiata, Jack Baker, John Bartley and Jon Welch all on 40 points.
Cortesi also slotted 2 twos – one on the 18metre par 3 14th and 176-metre par 3 17th. Owen Wilson also slotted a birdie 2 on the 14th.
Saturday, July 28, sees Tokoroa hosting the New World Tokoroa Open Tournament with an entry fee of $20, assemble 9.30am for a 10am multi-tee start. Events in July: Wednesday 11th: Vets Scramble. Thursday 12th: Ladies – 1st Rd Owen Jones Cup; Scramble for non competitors.
Saturday 14th: Ladies – Ashworth Cup Rd 1 of 3 (net). Men – Dyer Cup 4BBB (drawn partners) – net. Sunday 15th: Ladies – Waikato v Bay of Plenty @ Putaruru.
