Putaruru travel broker up for national award
She is accustomed to sending people around the world but now it is her turn to have the world at her feet.
Putaruru’s Kay Humphries has been nominated as a Travel Broker of the Year after winning the High Flyer award earlier this year.
The New Zealand Travel Industry launched the awards to celebrate and honour the exceptional individuals and businesses in the industry.
The awards will provide winners with a valuable mark of distinction, which will give them prestige in both their local and international markets.
The awards chief executive officer, Adrian Caruso said: ‘‘The awards will act as a development opportunity for skills and professionalism, and play an integral role in encouraging and rewarding excellence, innovation and commitment in the industry.’’
Earlier this year Kay ranked fifth highest travel broker in Travel Managers.
‘‘I got an email in the beginning of June to say that I had been nominated,’’ Kay said.
‘‘The great thing about this is that the industry will vote for the winners so you are being voted on by your peers,’’ she said.
This is the first time the awards have been held.
‘‘I am stoked. Look at what little old Putaruru can do.’’
Her nomination hasn’t come as a result of overnight success.
‘‘I have been selling travel for 20 years and I have been a broker for about eight years.’’
Voting closes on July 27 and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner on September 8.
