Students get low­down on safe driv­ing

About 300 sec­ondary school students from Toko­roa High School, For­est View High School, Mangakino Area School and Pu­taruru Col­lege and students from al­ter­na­tive ed­u­ca­tion par­tic­i­pated in a three-day driver expo which in­cluded guest speak­ers, pre­sen­ta­tions, demon­stra­tions and work­shop ac­tiv­i­ties.

The expo’s pur­pose was to ed­u­cate young driv­ers on safe driv­ing habits and in­cluded speak­ers Jade Beale, who was in­volved in a fatal car crash last year and Wiki Wick­liffe, who spoke about the fatal crash where a Toko­roa High stu­dent died in 2001.

The students also took part in ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing sit­ting in a car and look­ing in their rear-view mir­ror where they dis­cov­ered how poor vis­i­bil­ity can be when re­vers­ing.
