Waikato win­ners take five out of six

The an­nual 27- hole Boys and Girls Age Group Cham­pi­onship was held last Fri­day, July 13, at the Cam­bridge Golf Club. Open to boys and girls in three age­group di­vi­sions un­der 14, 16, and 19 the event at­tracted a full field with 38 dif­fer­ent clubs rep­re­sented. All bar one of the six win­ners came from the Waikato dis­trict with the best score of the day be­ing 103 from Compton Pikari of Te Awa­mutu 70 and 33 who took out the un­der-19 ti­tle. The even­tual win­ners were all ahead af­ter the first 18 holes and main­tained their po­si­tions to hold off the chal­lengers. kato turned the tables with a 23 to 9 win thus win­ning the BOP/ Waikato Shield which was first pre­sented back in 1956.
