Strathmore let rip in Wellington
They are the region’s best and are on their way to being New Zealand’s finest rippa rugby team.
Strathmore School’s rippa rugby team are heading to the Rippa Rugby Championships in Wellington representing the Waikato Province.
Strathmore School principal Murray Kendrick said the team of 10 will depart for Wellington this weekend.
‘‘The first day is a round robin type of system down in Wellington and then the second day are the finals.
‘‘They are representing the Waikato because they won the rippa tag competition that was held in May,’’ he said.
‘‘There was an elimination tournament held in Tokoroa, which got us to represent the Tokoroa area,’’ he said.
The school also won a competition held in Flagstaff on May 18.
‘‘We won that tournament and that gave us the right to represent Waikato at the nationals.’’
Mr Kendrick believes the team, which is coached by Ngaire Taikato and Lotu Misa, will perform well.
‘‘I think they will do all right,’’ he said.
