Strong winds test club golf champs

The first round of match play for the Men’s Club Champs com­pe­ti­tion was held on Satur­day at the Toko­roa Golf Club. While wet weather threat­ened, it was strong winds that tested golfers on the day. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Tom Hayes, Garth Shaw, Henry Skel­ton, Dar­ren Costar, Bradley HayesLen­non and Dave Ahuriri, who all progress to the sec­ond round of the com­pe­ti­tion. A re­minder that those knocked out af­ter the first round are el­i­gi­ble to play for the Atkin­son Tro­phy.

With an im­pres­sive score of 43 stable­ford points, Barry Preece took top hon­ours at Wed­nes­days Vets Scram­ble, 3 points clear of run­ner up John Loye. Alan Blair was third with a very re­spectable 39 points. Two’s were scored by Barry Preece and John Kawenga. John also had the long­est putt of the day on the 9th hole.
