Martin’s marathon starts with dinner
Martin Bloxham’s first fundraiser is under way, the first step in his goal towards raising $1 million for the Spinal Cord Society for the cure of paralysis and Type 1 Diabetes.
For Mr Bloxham, of Putaruru, raising awareness and money for the cause is a passion from the heart.
He lost his parents to problems related to diabetes and he has two close friends who are paralysed.
Mr Bloxham’s main challenge is to walk/run/bike/motorbike/fly and even ride a horse from Bluff to Cape Reinga starting on March 6, next year.
He said his marathon fundraiser will take about two months.
Mr Bloxham will detour to other towns as well, covering most of the country.
He has never been to the South Island, and is looking forward to the experience, but the benefits of the money he raises for paralysis and Type 1 diabetes will be greater.
Mr Bloxham’s first fundraiser is being planned now and will be a gala dinner at the Putaruru Hotel on October 4.
Anyone who wants to come and wish Mr Bloxham well with his campaign is welcome to this dinner.
The dinner will be cooked by master chef Cameron Petley, who will demonstrate his creative culinary skills and believes in ‘‘keeping your palate keen and your dinner plate clean!’’
During the evening there will be a silent and live auction hosted by Darryl Anderson from Trackside.
The auction items include a dinner for four designed and cooked by Cameron at the Master’s Table restaurant.
There is also a weekend getaway for four in a two-bedroom townhouse at Wyndham Marama Resort on the shores of Lake Rotorua.
Tickets are $ 100 each. To book call Mr Bloxham on 027 582 7760 or 07 888 1728. The closing date for bookings is October 1.
