The first phases of Tokoroa Central School’s refurbishment is almost complete with the new administration building near completion.

The school’s upgrade plans have been in motion for more than a year when an architect was brought in to detail plans to open the school up to the community.

‘‘We feel that we have our back to the community. What we have always wanted to do is turn around the school so that is more open to the public. We wanted to move the administration part around so that it is in the front part of the school.

‘‘We want the community to feel welcome.

We want to welcome everyone into our school,’’ principal TinaMaree Hooper said.

The planning process began in February last year, which includes a new entrance and pathway.

The school has a site plan which has been worked on by an architect.

‘‘We want the changes on the outside to reflect all of the great work that has been done, and is being done on the inside.’’

The administration block will be completed within the coming weeks and will be used by the school during the next term.
