Golfers get out in the sun­shine

It’s been an­other busy but suc­cess­ful week at the Toko­roa Golf Club, with the golfers mak­ing the most of the sun­shine.

At Wed­nes­day’s vets’ scram­ble, Burn Newth took top hon­ours with an im­pres­sive 43 stable­ford points. Den­nis Duggan was sec­ond with 40 points and third equal with 36 points were Dave Ahuriri, John Kawenga and John Loye. Two golfers man­aged to score twos – con­grat­u­la­tions Ken Ram­say and Den­nis Duggan.

In ladies golf news, the first round of the Bram­ble Cup was played on Tues­day. This is a hand­i­cap match­play com­pe­ti­tion and re­sults are as fol­lows: Au­drey Van­ner de­feated Kahu Winikerei; Deb­bie Hayes-Len­non def. Jan Grange; Josie Loye def. Ann Preece and Hazel Meredith def. He­len Min­nel.

Last Satur­day was the third and fi­nal round of men’s gross stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion. The four di­vi­sions were won by Gavin Cortesi, Henry Skel­ton, Bren­don Welch and Jon Welch re­spec­tively.

Toko­roa Golf Course is closed all day on Satur­day 6th as golfers com­pete in the club cham­pi­onship fi­nals. With some di­vi­sions play­ing a gru­elling 36 holes we are ex­pect­ing to see a very full day of ex­cel­lent golf from some of Toko­roa’s best Men’s and Ladies golfers. The draw for Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 6 is: 8.30am J Loye v T Pi­rato; 8.37am T Pi­rato v C Duggan; 8.44am G Shaw v B Hayes-Len­non; 8.51am S Buck­ley v K Winikerei; 9.00am G Cortesi v K Cortesi; 9.07am T Paiti v L Tafau; 9.14am J Grange v S McCaskill; 9.21am A Preece v D Hayes-Len­non.

Day­light sav­ing sees the be­gin­ning of twi­light golf ev­ery Wed­nes­day night. This is a great weekly 9-hole event. Ju­nior golf will also start soon, watch this space for more de­tails. We are hav­ing two work­ing bees on Oc­to­ber 5 and 12 – please make some time to help out. An­other re­minder to get your en­tries in for the $10,000 Open – the field is fill­ing up fast.
