Golfers get out in the sunshine
It’s been another busy but successful week at the Tokoroa Golf Club, with the golfers making the most of the sunshine.
At Wednesday’s vets’ scramble, Burn Newth took top honours with an impressive 43 stableford points. Dennis Duggan was second with 40 points and third equal with 36 points were Dave Ahuriri, John Kawenga and John Loye. Two golfers managed to score twos – congratulations Ken Ramsay and Dennis Duggan.
In ladies golf news, the first round of the Bramble Cup was played on Tuesday. This is a handicap matchplay competition and results are as follows: Audrey Vanner defeated Kahu Winikerei; Debbie Hayes-Lennon def. Jan Grange; Josie Loye def. Ann Preece and Hazel Meredith def. Helen Minnel.
Last Saturday was the third and final round of men’s gross stableford competition. The four divisions were won by Gavin Cortesi, Henry Skelton, Brendon Welch and Jon Welch respectively.
Tokoroa Golf Course is closed all day on Saturday 6th as golfers compete in the club championship finals. With some divisions playing a gruelling 36 holes we are expecting to see a very full day of excellent golf from some of Tokoroa’s best Men’s and Ladies golfers. The draw for Saturday, October 6 is: 8.30am J Loye v T Pirato; 8.37am T Pirato v C Duggan; 8.44am G Shaw v B Hayes-Lennon; 8.51am S Buckley v K Winikerei; 9.00am G Cortesi v K Cortesi; 9.07am T Paiti v L Tafau; 9.14am J Grange v S McCaskill; 9.21am A Preece v D Hayes-Lennon.
Daylight saving sees the beginning of twilight golf every Wednesday night. This is a great weekly 9-hole event. Junior golf will also start soon, watch this space for more details. We are having two working bees on October 5 and 12 – please make some time to help out. Another reminder to get your entries in for the $10,000 Open – the field is filling up fast.
