Ded­i­ca­tion re­warded

They have been on the front­lines of an­i­mal wel­fare ad­vo­cacy for years and their con­tin­ued ded­i­ca­tion has fi­nally been recog­nised.

South Waikato SPCA shel­ter man­ager Lorna Hutchin­son and SPCA Va­ri­ety Store man­ager Colleen Fer­gus­son were awarded Queen’s Dia- mond Ju­bilee com­mem­o­ra­tive medals.

South Waikato SPCA chair­woman San­dra Har­ring­tonFrost and Mrs Hutchin­son nom­i­nated Mrs Fer­gus­son.

‘‘She has put in the hard yards too,’’ Mrs Hutchin­son said.

‘‘She has run garage sales, she runs the shop. All the years she has done that.’’

Nom­i­na­tions were made in July, but Mrs Hutchin­son was un­aware that some­one had also nom­i­nated her.

‘‘ I didn’t know any­thing about it un­til I got a let­ter in the mail,’’ she said.

‘‘ I don’t know who nom­i­nated me.’’

Colleen’s dog Bo, who is blind, is also shar­ing the lime­light with the pair.
