Lock lifts Waikato squad
Waikato schoolboy lock Tave John Tuakana-Natua has ended the season with his team-mates winning the Roller Mills trophy.
Tave has played rugby for Southern United Rugby Football Club (SURF) in the under-11s, under-12s and under-13s team.
This year he also played for the Tritons Rugby Team at the Gwynne Shield Tournament in Hautapu and Cambridge.
Although the team finished seventh overall, Tave was selected, along with four other members of the Tritons Team, to trial for the Waikato Rugby Roller Mills squad.
After two months of trials and playing in pre-tournament games, Tave was the only player from Tokoroa to make the final squad which comprised mainly Hamilton and Te Awamutu players.
During the first week of the school holidays the team travelled to Orakei Domain to play in the Annual Roller Mills Tournament, and went through the tournament unbeaten, beating Auckland East 21-0 in the finals. Tave started and played in all games as a lock/second rower. Results from tournaments: First game v Thames Valley, won 49-0
Second game v Bay of Plenty won 24-10
Third game v King Country, won 67-0
Fourth game v Northland, won 39-0
Semifinals v Auckland West, won 17-12 Finals v Auckland East, won 21-0. Tave would like to thank his coaches and managers in the SURFs, Tritons and Waikato teams, for helping to develop his rugby skills.
He would also like to thank his friends and family for their ongoing support.
Tave is a year 8 student at Tokoroa Intermediate School.
