Lock lifts Waikato squad

Waikato school­boy lock Tave John Tu­akana-Natua has ended the sea­son with his team-mates win­ning the Roller Mills tro­phy.

Tave has played rugby for South­ern United Rugby Football Club (SURF) in the un­der-11s, un­der-12s and un­der-13s team.

This year he also played for the Tri­tons Rugby Team at the Gwynne Shield Tour­na­ment in Hau­tapu and Cam­bridge.

Al­though the team fin­ished seventh over­all, Tave was se­lected, along with four other mem­bers of the Tri­tons Team, to trial for the Waikato Rugby Roller Mills squad.

Af­ter two months of tri­als and play­ing in pre-tour­na­ment games, Tave was the only player from Toko­roa to make the fi­nal squad which com­prised mainly Hamil­ton and Te Awa­mutu play­ers.

Dur­ing the first week of the school hol­i­days the team trav­elled to Orakei Do­main to play in the An­nual Roller Mills Tour­na­ment, and went through the tour­na­ment un­beaten, beat­ing Auck­land East 21-0 in the fi­nals. Tave started and played in all games as a lock/sec­ond rower. Re­sults from tour­na­ments: First game v Thames Val­ley, won 49-0

Sec­ond game v Bay of Plenty won 24-10

Third game v King Coun­try, won 67-0

Fourth game v North­land, won 39-0

Semi­fi­nals v Auck­land West, won 17-12 Fi­nals v Auck­land East, won 21-0. Tave would like to thank his coaches and man­agers in the SURFs, Tri­tons and Waikato teams, for help­ing to de­velop his rugby skills.

He would also like to thank his friends and fam­ily for their on­go­ing sup­port.

Tave is a year 8 stu­dent at Toko­roa In­ter­me­di­ate School.
