Police are searching for a man who kidnapped two Tokoroa dairy owners at gunpoint on Saturday night.

A gun-wielding man approached the woman as she waited in the couple’s silver Toyota saloon car while her partner locked the Amber St store.

He forced the woman to the shop where he stole money and then forced them to drive him around.

Police say the man counted the cash before forcing his victims to make a withdrawal at an ATM in Bridge St and then made them go back to the shop to get more money.

The man then made the victims drive him to State Highway 1 where he got out of the vehicle near a Mobil service station. He was last seen walking north on the highway.

During the ordeal, which lasted about 40 minutes, the victims were threatened but not harmed.

The kidnapper was wearing dark clothes and had a blue and white bandanna across his face.

He was described as possibly a Maori or Pacific Islander, aged 20 to 25, of medium build and about 1.80 metres to 1.85m tall.

Anyone with information should contact Tokoroa police on 07 885 0100 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
