Men ar­rested af­ter as­saults

Pu­taruru Po­lice have ar­rested two men in re­la­tion to a se­ries of as­saults that took place in Lich­field re­cently.

While in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing, Sergeant Ja­son Shailer said the ar­rests were made last week fol­low­ing in­ci­dents out­side a 21st birthday party, which was be­ing held in Lich­field School and Community Hall.

‘‘ We are in­ves­ti­gat­ing it. There are more en­quiries to be made. There are a cou­ple of peo­ple we want to speak to but [they] seem to be elu­sive.’’

A 22-year-old Pu­taruru man has pleaded guilty to one charge of as­sault and will ap­pear in Toko­roa Dis­trict Court on De­cem­ber 11, while a 28- year- old Aus­tralian man pleaded guilty to three charges of as­sault in Hamil­ton Dis­trict Court last week.

Mr Shailer said the as­saults were fu­elled by a cock­tail of al­co­hol, tes­terone and bravado.
