South Waikato News - - OPINION/NEWS -

The children of Samoa Taumafai Aoga Amata have a brand-new shade structure.

Centre manager Amiria McDonald said the huge shade structure was attached to the side of the building.

The early childhood centre was recently donated $2000 towards the shade structure’s construction from the Cancer Society. ‘‘We want to say thank you and get them over to see the structure,’’ she said.

Funding was applied for around August, she said.

‘‘Our centre is run by our committee and the committee is made up of parents. The parents are the people who came in and put it all together . . . Over the last two months they were just coming in in their own time to put it together.’’

The shade structure has been up for one month.

‘‘The kids love it and the babies can go under it.’’

The opening ceremony was held recently at the centre where guests were greeted by a traditional Samoan welcome.

SHADE FOR ALL: Caregivers and children at Samoa Taumafai Aoga Amata are thrilled about their new shade structure.
