Maori tournament held
About 80 golfers took to the course on Saturday when the Tokoroa Golf Club hosted the 2012 Tokoroa Maori Open Tournament.
There is a long, proud history of Maori Tournaments in Tokoroa, stretching back to the 1960s.
Winners of this competition qualify to play in the Tainui Maori Champs hosted by Ngaruawahia next February.
Tokoroa Golf Club member John Bartley finished with a very impressive best net score of 62.
Forest View High School student Kurtis Cortesi won best gross with 72 and Supi Asiata won best stableford with 41 points.
William Marsters, in the intermediate division won best gross with 80 points, Tom Hayes achieved best net with 66 and Tai Pirato walked away with best stableford with 41 points.
Junior men’s best gross was Steve Ngatamariki with 85, best net was Trex Paiti and best stableford was Teina Tekopua with 45 points.
Chantelle Cassidy won the ladies’ division with a 72 gross, Teia Skelton won the best net with 75 and Edna Ross won best stableford with 33 points.
All of the place holders have qualified for the Tainui Maori Championship next February.
