Maori tour­na­ment held

About 80 golfers took to the course on Satur­day when the Toko­roa Golf Club hosted the 2012 Toko­roa Maori Open Tour­na­ment.

There is a long, proud his­tory of Maori Tour­na­ments in Toko­roa, stretch­ing back to the 1960s.

Win­ners of this com­pe­ti­tion qual­ify to play in the Tainui Maori Champs hosted by Ngaru­awahia next Fe­bru­ary.

Toko­roa Golf Club mem­ber John Bart­ley fin­ished with a very im­pres­sive best net score of 62.

For­est View High School stu­dent Kur­tis Cortesi won best gross with 72 and Supi Asi­ata won best stable­ford with 41 points.

Wil­liam Marsters, in the in­ter­me­di­ate division won best gross with 80 points, Tom Hayes achieved best net with 66 and Tai Pi­rato walked away with best stable­ford with 41 points.

Ju­nior men’s best gross was Steve Ngata­mariki with 85, best net was Trex Paiti and best stable­ford was Teina Tekopua with 45 points.

Chantelle Cas­sidy won the ladies’ division with a 72 gross, Teia Skel­ton won the best net with 75 and Edna Ross won best stable­ford with 33 points.

All of the place hold­ers have qual­i­fied for the Tainui Maori Cham­pi­onship next Fe­bru­ary.
