Am­is­field School wins chance to cut hair for char­ity

Lo­cal Project En­er­gize co­or­di­na­tor Taki­moana Morehu Cook­son shaved off his locks for a good cause.

Curlz for Cans was an ini­tia­tive that came in re­sponse to the high level of de­pri­va­tion that was a fo­cal point of the aware­ness around poverty.

Mr Morehu Cook­son ini­ti­ated a chal­lenge to all South Waikato pri­mary schools to do­nate a can for the win­ning in­cen­tive of be­ing able to cut his hair.

The win­ning school, Am­is­field Pri­mary School, shaved off Mr Morehu Cook­son’s hair re­cently.

In to­tal about 1011 cans were re­ceived for the Sal­va­tion Army Food Bank.

‘‘As the phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity and nu­tri­tion guy in the schools, I am al­ways de­bat­ing which kai is more healthy and which isn’t, but one thing is a cer­tainty – no food in your puku is the worst op­tion,’’ he said.
