A group of Tokoroa singers has continued the town’s illustrious reputation for producing gifted singers.

During Labour Weekend the 2012 NZ Star Awards were held in Tauranga and once again Tokoroa singers dominated.

Singer Summer Thompson, who represented Forestland Variety Music Club, received the highest-scoring non-finalist trophy, and Luana Karl won the over-18 Country Rock section.

Also representing Forestland Variety Music Club, Keinan Ngapo placed runnerup in the Male Solo.

The trio of Joshua Gray, Barbara Manning and Mr Ngapo combined to create Unity and won the Open Group/Duo section and were also overall winners of the Star Award.

The trio’s success means they are invited to compete in the NZCMA Entertainer of the Year awards in Rotorua next year.
